Holiday Cards

October 25th, 2006 at 11:16 pm

I do not send these anymore. I am glad.
I used to love to do cards. I am just not into it anymore. It is nice to keep things simple. I love to hear other people complain about their cards.....and having to do them. Wow.....such freedom. IS there something you need to release this year? There is freedom in releasing things that do not hold joy in our lives anymore. I released Christmas cards, making tons of homemade cookies, buying everyone I know a gift and I released the fantasy of a perfect bliss filled Holiday. I also was able to release some unusual relatives, a mother in law who had to have things her way and holiday traditions I never liked from my ex's side of the family.

OK...your turn.

Exactly what I'm going to do this Christmas. Release holiday traditions that are no longer enjoyable, such as loads of toys for the boys who are 11 and 14. Doing a big Christmas Dinner. This year it's going to be ordering from our nearby Dominoe's pizza. Putting up a Christmas tree.(well, maybe I'll rethink that one. )

However, I will still do Christmas goodie baskets for the family members, only this year they will be better. More meat and cheese snacks, less cookies and candy. And special cans of tuna or chicken for our six beautiful and loving cats.

I basically don't do presents for anyone except my sons and daughter-in-law. Of course, this Christmas there will be the baby, too. My siblings and I draw for a $20 gift, which we exchange at Thanksgiving, not Christmas. There are a few obligatory gifts at work, but they are small.

I don't bake. Last year I didn't even decorate. I DO travel to be with family. That is expensive and that is my gift to them.

Wonderful! It is so freeing to let things go.

I tend to see lots of un-happy and crazed bleary eyed women at Christmas. I think if alot of things were stopped--- the men might not even notice nor care....same for children. Sometimes we do things to please other women. Can anyone relate? I found that with my ex's family. We tended to do things but the women would not be happy and complain under our breath. Yet when I tried to make a change wow......you would of thought I had said for Christmas we all have brain surgery.

We want to let go yet- for many it is risk they do not want to take.....maybe hurting someones feelings or rocking the family boat. Taking a stand for even something little in the scheme of world wide events can be daunting for many. Once you take a small step in getting untangled and free it is empowering. Same for money, budgetting, saving, being thrifty, not spending like everyone else or living your life in a different way.......we have to make our own choices and create our very own destiny. Perhaps that is also a sign of getting some wisdom and maturing a bit. I think it does not happen as easily when you are younger.

I stopped sending Christmas cards about 10 years ago and you know what?? Not one person has called me up and asked me "Where the H.E.doublehockeysticks is my Christmas card?"

    'Nuff said.

"There is freedom in releasing things that do not hold joy in our lives anymore." Yes, you are absolutely right. I have stopped sending cards since I graduated. My job and life does not allow me much time to indulge in such trivial exchanges anymore. I cant even find time to watch a movie or go to my friend's house. But on the downside, I feel like I'm missing on little joys of life too. Things I should have done, which I will regret not doing, in future. Anyway, I think that's life. Adjusting ourselves according to changes.
