Tax Bill

January 14th, 2007 at 06:00 pm

I just got my NEW real estate tax bill. WOW.
It was very discouraging to say the least. I will probably pay it off completly. Our town got hit very hard. It basically stinks. I know alot of the older population were mad as heck over this huge tax hike. Oh well....with so many jobs leaving our state they have to get the money somehwere! It is hard when they are surviving on a fixed income.

I was trying like heck not to spend my spousal support check this month and bank a HUGE,HUGE part of it. Well now I have to pay this bill. I am going to make the month really stretch and then use the check to pay off my tax bill. It seems you make movement and then wham you are back to square one again. Just have to get really really creative in a few areas. Should not be so bad as I feel I am always doing that.
Anyone facing a huge bill?

Note to self....start a Christmas club account at the credit union. Money not seen is saved money.....every little bit helps. Anyone else for a Christmas club? I am sure it is not a great "investment" but it is a simple way to save for the end of the year.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

You would be better off putting the money in an accoung that pays decent interest. Every bit helps. Look at INGdirect, or one of the other on line accounts. With a referral, and a 250 dollar deposit, ING will give you $25.00, which would certainly buy a nice Christmas present.

have been wondering about that. I see alot of sites promoting INGdirect. Seems like a great idea and I have yet to hear anyone say anything negative about it. Thank you for the nudge to do so!

My tax bill is paid out of the escrow in my house payment, but it did'nt go up too much. Less than $200 I believe.
    A Christmas account sounds great!

My property tax bill doubled from last year. I feel your pain.

Our estimated tax bill for next year is going up by only $5.00. I can live with that and will adjust the amount I put back each month up by .42 cents to make sure it is in the bank when it's due.

Emigrant is also a good online site Big Grin. I have had my little issue with ING (see my blog).

My kids are in a private school 30 mins away in the country. It kills me to pay $1800.00 into the school system. I know it "helps" my property value....but it just kills me! I do not even get the district to bus my kids...I have to do it.

Where I live used to be all cornfields and farms with a Kmart and grocery store. Now it is MegaHomes and McMansions and nice shopping experience shopping centers......crazy! Too much traffic and too much of everything we do not need. Most of it spoils kids and creates more problems. You would think my taxes would be cheaper.

Once my kids are grown......my sites are a much smaller fixed up pretty cottage and in the country with a small barn for the grandkids to play in and a front porch of course. That is my very simple dream. It has been pictured in my mind for years! Hopefully with lower taxes.......one can dream....right??

I know what your talking about. Between DH and myself, we have several places and have to pay to 4 diff counties now. Ouch.

My property tax and insurance are also in my escrow and I am glad that I do not have to worry about how do dig up a chunk of money twice a year. My mortgage might vary a few dollars from time to time but I am fortunate enough to live in a community where the changes in taxes aren't that high.

My taxes went wild because part of it is I live in a town with a body of water that is appealing. The folks nearest this body of water got so hammered in the taxes. Most of the homes are now up for sale because no one can afford it anymore. It is so sad. Alot of the homes have been in families for generations. Glad I live in the boring section of town! I would really be in trouble if I lived in a better end of town.
