Staying on course

September 14th, 2006 at 12:55 am

I feel like a seive right now. So much money seems to running right thru my checkbook. How to block up the stream of leaking cash? Good Question!
Is it the little things that add up going to do the trick or one or two big chucks of one thing or another? Am I making myself clear?

Do I forget cell phones and cable
or turnoff lights and air dry clothes and shop only at Aldi's?

It is hard for me to figure that one out. Maybe it is a compromise of both methods. Does that statement even make sense??? Oh Brother....I feel like a finance flunkie right now.

All I know is if you spend a dollar you do not have that dollar to save.....right? I wish things could be that simple.......but at times they do seem complicated.

All we can do is try our very best and make the most of what we have. Knowing that our future is neither promised nor without bumps, tribulations and many trials.

If possible pray for a lovely young lady named Michelle who is entering her sophmore yr of college. She found out yesterday she has thyroid cancer....she had a five hour surgery today.

No one's future is promised, all we can do is our best each day. Today is a gift-that is why it is called the PRESENT. All we can do is our best when it comes to our finances. Living each day one day at a time and trying to be thankful for each moment. It sounds corny but we need to do it more often.

You are absolutely correct when you say that we should be thankful for each moment of every day. You never know when your last moment will be. When it comes to your finances, you should take it one thing at a time. Try cutting back on the cable TV. How much do you actually watch TV anyway? Call the cable company and downgrade for a few months. Take the money that you save each month from the cable bill and apply it somewhere else. It really doesn't matter where. Then move on to another area such as your cell phone. I am sure you get the point. Don't try to do too much at one time. It can become very overwhelming.

A reality check I find useful when my month and my money seem out of kilter is to fall back on a daily record. I use a little pocket notebook that I carry with me. For the space of a month I record every single cent I spend. Date, amount, what for, and where. That covers out-of-pocket spending. If I use a credit card during the month, I record that as well. My checkbook register provides a record of checking disbursements.

At the end of the month, I total it all up by category, and I can quickly see where the money goes and spot the leaks. Sometimes I'll do it for more than a single month. Ususally one is sufficient to show me where I might want to cut back or pay more attention.

It really helps me to focus on my money-handling. Smile

Great Ideas!! Thank you! I am going to really start to track and write things down! It seems all the nickels and dimes just add up to so much!
    Again...good wise suggestions!
