Kitties or Doggies----take your Pick!

May 31st, 2006 at 02:12 am

Took the little kitties to the vet for shots. Oh my goodness! I got the estimate for the surgeries to have front claws removed....and the procedure to not have more cute kitties. WOW! Pretty hefty! I now know why my vet drives a beautiful new car! Thankfully it will not happen till July--so I have some time to save. One of the kitties is twice the size as her sister! She is still small but getting much larger!

I stil think kitties are cheaper than dogs. I have never owned a dog....I am a cat person. My friend complains about her dogs endlessly--I never hear boo about her cats digging up the flowers or escaping down the street in the rain.I do like the idea of taking the dog for a walk. Having a buddy of sorts. Cats do not do that very well. Plus I only see wives walking the family dogs around here as I sit on my front porch. My teen son wanted a dog for a long time....I said I never ever see 16yr old boys walking the dog or going to the vet...or picking up p**p in the yard....only the moms it seems.

That is why I never caved into the whole "A Boy and his Faithful Dog Routine". Yes I never let him get a dog. I guess I am a mean mom or maybe a pretty smart mom. He does like the kitties....he will not admit it out loud but I think he is very fond of their very furry faces! Pets can be really wonderful. It can be really comforting to cuddle with a cat or yes...OK....a sweet old dog.

Have you checked around for the best price to get your cats fixed? I remember when we used to have dogs, the humane society would fix them for lots less than the regular vets in town. Don't know if it's the same now but it's worth a shot.

Great Idea! I have heard that for more MONEY they can do some surgeries with lasers......less "stress" for the pet. I heard that is horribly expensive but that vets will appeal to the pet owner emotions to have them choose laser. Good idea on HS......I will try that route.

By the way------I hope there aren't any vets lurking on the blogs....I don't mean to be so "down" on vets.....it just is so much money nowadays. Vets DO provide for our dear pets. Again.....I hope I did not offend any vet professionals.

I don't know if you know exactly what declawing is, but I will be happy to provide 3 very important links of information and pictures of what declawing is and exactly what it involves.

My blog is Pennypencher50 and I have some pictures of my kitties posted if you would like to view them.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about the declawing part. I think I'd wait and see if the kittens are really going after the furniture. I didn't bother with the declawing and after a couple of month adjustment and a lot of catnip on the scratching post, cat much prefers the post to the couch. Are your kittens that rambunctious?
The spay/neuter part is important, as are the shots (wait a little bit to refresh your savings if you want the feline leukemia shot), the flea dip, and the microchip.

I appreciate all the good info---lots of thngs I have not even thought of !
I am going to very carefully review what the vet told me and your helpful advice.....thank you both for providing me with some great words of wisdom to really ponder through. That is why these blogs are SO VERY valuable! Thank you both again!!!

Pennypencher50---I paid your place a visit! WONDERFUL!! Thank you for the photos!!!

I'm also very against declawing...it's akin to chopping off the first joint of your finger. Plus, if the cats ever get outside accidentally, they haven't got much to protect themselves. Kittens can be rambunctious, but some catnip in the right places and anti-scratching spray in others can work wonders (a full water bottle and watchful eye is invaluable as well).

Good luck finding a good price on the spaying/neutering! Enjoy your kittens!

I was reading something about that today--de-clawing. My kitties are def very very well behaved. One of the kitties has done nothing even close to destructive. The other dear has climbed up the curtains twice and my window screens a few times....but I just say NO ina different voice tone...and she seems to know "no-no" and does pretty good. So yes...lots I need to really consider. Thank you!!!!

These kitties have such a nice temperment. I think one reason is becasue they are loved on it seems like 24/7! They are so happy and super content. Plus they seem to love each other....when one is not around...the other one meews loudly for her till she re-appears! It is darling!

I'm sorry-----I better stop bragging about them.....I am one proud kitty granny!

Just wanted to ditto everyone's comments about the declawing. And to say that i am so pleased that everyone made those comments in the first place.

If you don't like the idea of the kittens possibly clawing things up, you might consider getting adult cats instead of kittens next time as they tend to be calmer.

    Declawing is a cruel procedure.

I love cats...I don't love dogs as much, but, since my niece is allergic...we got Fiona...I do love her, though...for the most part, she's a very good doggie ...and now that she has outgrown her biting-everything-in-sight phase, she's good company for Ale (and, Ale is in charge of Fiona's food and water, so it builds responsibility...I'm in charge of her bath!)

I like your doggie's name---Fiona! It sounds sweet for a doggie!
I think that is Irish or Scottish???? Cute name!

I have been gone all day--I missed my "girls"!!
I managed to remember to buy a dollar photo frame for a new kitty photo I have that is so cute. It looks like a Hallmark card photo.......my mom took it and she did a nice job taking their photo. The kitties actually were posing perfectly! Of course....... : )

I am a cat person myself, but they are not completely innocent. A couple of the neighbor cats just love the nice soft dirt in my garden and flowerbeds. They think it makes the perfect outdoor litter box. Or it did until I sprayed it with a little pepper water and planted a bunch of catnip in one corner of the yard. Now they go there and they don't want to leave a mess by the catnip. Don't know where their new outdoor litter box is now, but its no longer in my yard!

LuckyRobin you are so clever!!!!My neighbor's cat did that in my yard.
Thankfully it was away from my house and more out by the backyard...way out there.....so I did not get too upset. When I would see her...she would just glare at me! Like she was saying..."What's wrong with you honey????" She seemed to not be to worried about me.
