Gas Prices---Driving The Family Room on Wheels

May 22nd, 2006 at 03:03 pm

What is the price of gas out your way?
WalMart today is 2.69--- for me it is 2.66 since I use my WalMart CC (which I pay off each month). I think all in all that seems pretty good as far as price.
Has it been a budget buster for you??

I try to group errands and not go out as much. I own a huge full size Ford van.
My ex and I bought it right before he left me. We paid for it with cash. I keep thinking should I trade it in and get something smaller? I might of not bought this big of a van if I knew what my future was holding at that time. On the other hand-I love it that it is paid off....has tons of room for four kids....runs great and has not had any major problems at all! I love it for travel as it feels so safe and it makes long trips bearable.

Have you traded your car in for something more gas friendly? Have you even considered it? I was just curious.
Sometimes I think I have so much going on in m life right now and every day-I just do not need the hassle of getting a different car. Maybe that sounds lazy---

You're lucky! Gas here in Oregon is averaging $3.05 - $3.15 OUCH!

Oh my goodness!!! Is Oregon very hilly??? Can you ride a bike to the store or work? WOW!! We seem to be always on the lower end of prices.
Not sure why.....I am NOT COMPLAINING my friend!

Well, it is a little hilly- but I live 13 miles outside of town. My solution is to only go to town once or twice a week...and I drive a car that gets good gas mileage. But boy, it still plays havoc on my allowance...perhaps it is time for a 'raise' Wink

Thrifty Ray you do need to bump up that allowance.
Gas is so pricey for your area!
I use my handy dandy scrap paper pile and always make a good list so I can plan my trips and be as organized as possible as far as the stops I make. Thankfully in suburbia I have places to shop very close by.
That can be good and bad at the same time.

Gee, $2.69 seems like a distant memory. We've been over $3 for months now. The city average is $3.29 a gallon. The pay before you pump is $3.19, though one of them is at $3.16. It annoys me greatly when we have a refinery in our county and pay more for gas than the rest of the state (including Seattle) just because we are a border county and they like to gouge the Canadian consumers right along with the rest of us.

It wouldn't be so bad if we had good bus service but we don't. The rest of the county does, but we don't. We get two early buses, two late night buses and one middle of the day bus. Anyone wanting to catch a bus after school starts and be back before it lets out is out of luck.

I have very fond memories of riding the bus to go downtown with grandma when I was a child. She did not drive so she walked or rode the bus. She seemed to manage just fine. That was back in the days when suburbia was not so sprawling I think. Things back then were smaller or compact. Plus evey little neighborhood had a small corner store. I have such great memories perfectly etched of walking to the little store and getting small items we needed. Life is different now and it seems you HAVE to own a car to get around. I used to ride the bus downtown when I worked before being a SAHM. Now people think that is strange-loads of folks I know would rather pay high gas prices than ride the bus for 40 mins. Plus I think cars give people a sense of FREEDOM....to do as they wish....when they wish.

Oh I am sorry your gas is so pricey!! That seems way over the top and a bit crazy!!!!
