Indoor Drying rack

May 19th, 2006 at 05:01 pm

Since it is so wet out and the rain seems to want to linger forever, my clothesline is off duty....here is way to make your laundry area a drying center of sorts. Hang a shower rod between two areas and hang laundry on hangers.
I had a spare rod and placed it between an over the dryer shelf and an open cupboard on the opposite side of the room. Viola! Instant sturdy rod to hang lots of kid-o clothes on hangers. Also an old bulletin board goes over the laundry room wash tub to create more folding space. I have seen this to purchase in catalogs for over ten dollars! Silly! I also keep all four of my kids socks stored in the laudry room....each child has a sock basket--- is so much easier! It is great to find new uses for things and stay organized to boot. Give your laundry room a quick overhaul and you may even find some change for the change jar or another "interseting item." Plus you feel more cheerful in a pleasant work environment. Oh I have not turned any lights on despite it being so gloomy out!

Good idea on the rod & hangers. I have a couple of the folding drying racks, but I could use your system too. Could use the shower rod in the bathroom too..........we'd really look like a laundry then!! Beats using the dryer however.

I try to keep the lights off, too. Lighting a candle may make things a bit more inviting during the gray days...

Yes..I love candles! Plus I open the curtains and take up the mini blinds as well. Still grey here....my son says there is supposed to sun on Saturday.

I kind of like the occasional gray day! I loveto cozy up with a good book, low light, and soft music. As for the laundry I put a line up in the basement.
We dry stuff down there. Saves a ton on the gas dryer.

I can fit five loads of laundry on my clothesline and today there were that many on it when the rain began. So I had to bring them in and have them hanging on 2 drying racks, the treadmill, the gazelle (exercise equipment), on hangers on both shower rods, on the back of each kitchen chair and something is hanging over every cupboard door. Necessity is the mother of invention! But I have vowed not to use my dryer unless I absolutely have to.

I am thrilled to know you decorate like I do at times...with hangers and damp clothes all over!!! Isn't wonderful to not have to hear that dryer!
What a smart saver you are!
